Supplier Update 17 September 2022

Kia ora,

This week marked the signing of a contract with Scott Technology to deliver a fully-automated lamb processing system for our Finegand site in South Otago.

We’ve got a good working relationship with Scott Technology. Back in the late 2000s we worked in collaboration to develop an early iteration of our automated lamb processing technology, through our joint venture with Scott, RTL.

This new primal system uses x-ray and vision technology to deliver even higher accuracy cutting and improve yield, while also removing much of the manual heavy cutting activity and allowing roles to be redeployed elsewhere on site. The system will also improve efficiency with a processing capability of 10 full carcasses per minute.

Over the last few years we’ve really ramped up our infrastructure investment.

Last year we invested over $60 million in the business, which was a record, and this year we are on track to invest around $100 million. Most of this is going into our 14 sites across the country, which in some instances have a history going back almost 140 years.

We’re really confident in the outlook for our red meat - these investments are our vote of confidence in that, and will help ensure our facilities meet our collective expectations and aspirations.

In this week’s market report, you’ll see we’re trying to work smarter when it comes to transport and we’ve got an update on how we’re supporting the valuable role our livestock transporters play in our supply chain. Make sure you also catch our regular market insights for an update across beef, sheepmeat, and venison.
