Supplier Update 13 May 2022

This week the Co-operative hosted their Annual Meeting for the 2021 year. A great opportunity to celebrate a year to be proud of, despite significant disruption in market, at processing sites and of course for you on farm.

Ahead of the Annual Meeting I presented a company update covering the ongoing challenges, our direction of travel, investment in the business and a forward view on the challenges and opportunities ahead. You can watch my presentation, and the full Annual Meeting by clicking here. Keep an eye on your inbox as we'll also be sharing another Virtual Supplier Update video with you next week.

I spent some time in Wellington last week, meeting with key people across Government. Board Co-Chair Rob Hewett and I met with Minister O’Connor to give an overview of the business and our sector. We talked through our approach to some key issues such as He Waka Eke Noa, labour shortage challenges, and our Net Carbon Zero programme. I also met with some key politicians and senior leaders from across the Government. We’re making positive contributions across a range of issues, and with travel back on the cards we’ll continue to make the most of these opportunities.

We were delighted to announce that Brenda Talacek will be joining Silver Fern Farms in June as our new Chief Operating Officer. Coming to us from Vector where she held the Chief Operating Officer position, Brenda has built a strong reputation for her strategic and operational expertise in the energy sector and is a proven leader of people. These attributes will serve us very well as we manage the challenges of the present and continue building for the future with major investments in technology and infrastructure - particularly in our Operations space.

In this week’s update: we’ve held our first two regional Supplier Awards, a note on presentation standards around raddle markings, plus the latest from the markets.
