Supplier Update 11 November 2022

Kia ora,

This week I joined the team hosting suppliers in Christchurch at the NZ Agri Show. After a three year hiatus it’s great to have a presence here and also to catch up with suppliers, industry partners, and a few MPs including National leader Christopher Luxon who visited our tent on Thursday, and Ag Minister Damian O’Connor on Friday.

Engagement around Agricultural Emissions Pricing continues with submissions closing next Friday, 18 November. You can have your say by making a submission here and we really encourage you to do so.

As part of the Meat Industry Association (MIA) Council I met with the Prime Minister and Ministers O’Connor and Shaw this week in a continuing effort to get the views of the red meat industry in front of Government. The conversations were constructive, with Silver Fern Farms able to bring a strong market-led perspective on how fair pricing, an improved incentives suite including more support for on-farm biodiversity, and a coordinated approach on sequestration can support brand New Zealand. While formal consultation closes shortly, we do expect that discussions on these issues will be ongoing over the summer period and into 2023.

In this week’s report we’ve got an updated outlook on farmgate pricing, a report from the NZ Agri Show, the launch of the Kai Commitment, coverage of our recent international market tour, and the latest from the markets.
