Silver Fern Farms Market Report 25 November 2022

This week saw the last of our supplier roadshow dinners conclude with over 200 suppliers attending our dinners in New Plymouth and Whangarei.

I know I speak for the Executive and Directors who took part in these when I say that we really value the engagement we have with you at these events. While it’s important to provide an update on what’s happening with the company and hear how you’re going on farm, I also really appreciate being able to catch up with many of you directly.

A key takeaway from the roadshows was that we’re facing into some global headwinds which are having an impact on pricing. However, we still have a big focus on our in-market activity to keep our customers engaged and consuming our premium products.

For example, our coverage at the recent China International Import Expo (CIIE) saw Silver Fern Farms feature in 1,780 local media articles, and the launch of our branded retail venison also featured for 2 minutes on CCTV – a major Chinese television network with a potential audience of over 1 billion.

Meanwhile, our processing sites are now a few months into the season and while we still have some challenges on the horizon around labour availability and the ongoing risk of Covid disruption, we’re pleased with how things are progressing so far compared to last season.

Make sure you download the Market Report for a more detailed overview of the processing season ahead including any potential disruption we may be facing into.

In this week’s Report, we also have coverage of a field day on our 2021 Plate to Pasture Winners’ farm, a new feature for the Silver Fern Farmer App, and our regular market insights.
