Our animals are grass-fed and have the ability to roam and graze freely. Our grass-based system optimises natural resources and uses low-intensity farming practices to minimise environmental impact and match the natural grass growth curve.

Customers can choose their product packaging to suit. Currently, we offer products packaged in a liner-less carton or frozen naked block.

Animal Welfare

Our animals are grass-fed and have the ability to roam and graze freely. The animals can eat and live as they would naturally, reducing stress and promoting better animal welfare. Silver Fern Farms complies with the New Zealand government’s legislative requirements as laid out in the Animal Welfare Act of 1999.

We have comprehensive systems and policies in place to ensure the welfare of our animals throughout our chain of care. Our processing sites abide by strict animal welfare policies and practices and operate a humane slaughter program to ensure that stress to animals is minimised.

The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) certifies our products against these requirements.
